I think it is awesome that you were a suicide prevention counselor. I did that -- and other "crisis intervention" counseling during the mid-1970s. Ever talk to a speed freak at 3 am? Not a difficult assignment if you can sleep and sound responsive to a non-stop babbler at the same time. The spousal abuse safe-house referrals were the worst -- when women would ask for the number and have to hang up before I had given it because hubby came home. Dealing with the suicides was, for the most part, fulfilling because you knew you at least bought them one more day.
