Give a kid an iPad

As you may or may not know, we've never shied from letting Lisel use our iPhones. They're a great travel tool for calming the restless child. I even talked about my favorite apps for kiddos in the New York Times online.

I recently got an iPad...okay, it was my push present! Nothing but an Apple product could have gotten me to ask for such a thing. And yes, I love it in than way that Apple addicts love Apple products.

Anywho, today while hanging out with Betty Crafter and little Betty I turned my back for a second, only to find that Lisel had commandeered my iPad made a little art.

It's just amazing to me what a digital native my oldest (but still very young) child is. I think a part of me feels like I should be freaked out, like I need to hold her back from this knowledge. Like I should make her childhood free of touch screens and digital noise. But in my heart of hearts, I just stand amazed and, yes, proud.

What about you. What are your thoughts on kids and technology?

It's the world she's living in. I can't imagine trying to keep her away from it.

By the way, nice piece by your little artist. :-)

I started letting the TwinKlings use my iPhone around 3 when I got back from Iraq. Its a testament to the intuitive nature of the product that they can self-teach every move.

TONS of self-paced, reward-based educational apps out there too for free or .99c - its a no-brainer. Just like anything, they need balance. I don't always let them use it, but when I do, I know it will benefit them.

When I get an iPad I'm sure they'll be getting equal time. :)
