The Singles -- by Meredith Goldstein

So I've mentioned one of my oldest and dearest friends Meredith Goldstein before. We've known each other since middle school, which now that I'm 35 seems like a really, really long time ago. Damn.

Meredith is a writer and advice columnist for the the Boston Globe. She dispenses sage relationship advice in her "Love Letters" Column. I love reading her advice as well as the responses tin the comment section.  She's created a whole scene over there, and it's hilarious.

And now, one of my oldest and dearest friends is also a published author. Her Book, The Singles, has been officially released.  It's really good. And I'm not just saying that because I love her. It's the story of five dateless wedding guests and a frustrated bride, and it's at once totally hilarious and completely heartbreaking.  It's about people on the cusp of life and in transition and since we have all occupied that space at some point in our life, we can all relate to the characters.

Quite honestly, I stand in awe of Mere, and have since we were kids. She's always known she was a writer, and has always written.  That's rare, for someone to be so comfortable with their talents at such a young age. And the woman has serious follow through.  I mean, I've never done it, but I assume that writing a novel is like climbing a mountain. It's an all encompassing physical, mental and spiritual endeavor. And Meredith did the work and did it well. The she got her work published. And now you can read her work.

Awesome.
