Levon Won.

But still, that was definitely Christmas morning, first date, first ultrasound kind of feeling!

Totally awesome!

I'm sitting at the pre telecast

At the Grammys.

That's all of us earlier!

We look good, yes?

Dude, I'm a little nervous.

We've been taking care of a sick baby on the road (more about that later) so I really haven't been thinking about much of anything else. But now I'm nervous.

My fingers. Are crossed!

At the airport

We breakfasted at Ray Benson's Roadhouse in the Austin Airport this morning. Lisel caught the crawling fire, so she and Dave went exploring.

She found the stage. In Austin, we have live music in the airport because that's just how we roll. (it's actually a great gig).

Was it hapoenstance, or was she genetically drawn to the stage? Or maybe it was the life size cutout of Ray Benson. Only time will tell.

Going to the Grammys

Yes, we're going to the Grammys. Well, we're not going straight to the the Grammys. We have three gigs in Arizona first. Claire is out here with us. She's actually opening the shows in Flagstaff and Gilbert. Which of course is very cool.

All last week, people were asking me if I was getting excited about the Grammys. I told then yes, but what I didn't tell them was that it wasn't excitement like I'm used to. It wasn't night before Christmas giddyness. Nor was it first date butterflies.

Because we have this tour right in front of it. And after the festivities, Dave and I will be visiting his folks in San Diego. And although it's not a long run, it still requires the concentrated logistical though that all tours with babies require. I can tell that until the last note in played on Saturay night, my focus will be elsewhere.

Then I'll be expecting the adrenaline fueled fantasies and the goofiness that big events inevitably bring out in me.

Until then, the road will occupy my mind.

A Little Road Trip Magic

For the next two days we're taking a small Texas road trip to Grapevine and Cypress, TX. Once again our awesome friend Lindsay is coming along as road nanny/traveling companion.

It's one of the great pleasures of our little experiment, getting travel with our great friends. Lindsay and I have played music together forever, and long before the baby bus traveled around the country in cars, minivans and vans. We played gigs for no money and nobody all over Austin. We drove 500 miles to play for 5 people more than a few times. We stayed on couches, or in hotels 4 people to a room. Along the way we've gotten to know each other inside and out. We've grown up together.

And now, he's hopping in the baby bus and heading north with us, so we can catch up with each other and all the while he's getting to know our little girl--growing up with her too.

Delightful.

Backstage

When I wad growing up, my family listened to a lot of Broadway musical soundtracks. A lot. Like my sister and I can still sing almost every word to every song in "42nd Street" and "Pippin" a lot.

So being in a musical is like, really cool for me.

One of the coolest things about doing this play is being on the other side of the stage. None of us ever get to see the play as a whole. Instead we see the see the set pieces and the costumes, the players waiting to hear their cues, the curtains and he worklights. The actors and the crew and the costumers have their own backstage choereography, just as essential to he production as any blocking. Our play is very different from what the audience will ever experience, but to me it's every bit as entertaining.

It looks kind of like this.

Back in the Saddle

So, I'm back. After a fairly long absence from the blogosphere, I'm back.

I didn't really mean to take a break. It's just that the holidays started, and there was the travel and the family and then we had a big old break from work, and then there was the inevitable wintertime sicky...not to mention that Dave and Lisel and I started to do these outrageous things like cook meals in our kitchen and spend multiple nights in our own beds and do all our laundry...I really didn't know how many pairs of underwear I actually owned, seeing as how they were all scattered about in different bags and suitcases...and I just kind of didn't get around to blogging.

And then I realized I was on break. I and was pretty psyched.

Because really, I needed a break. From blogging. From working. From logistics. From long drives through the openess of America. From being a singing road warrior mama.

I didn't realize until I stopped for a second how utterly burnt out I was. It's not surprising, considering how 2009 went down for us. New baby. New way of approaching the road. Everything we had known was turned all upside downish and turned aroundish.

And we worked pretty hard to you know.

But the great thing about our job is that when we do have breaks. And when we have breaks, we get to be off, vacation styles. And so, I've been off.

And it felt good.

But now, I'm back. I feel rested, relaxed and best if all ready.

2010, you are welcome to bring it on.

A Ride With Bob, Kerrville and you

So, I've totally told you about the play I'm in right? It's about the life and music of Bxob Wills. I play many roles, including Minnie Pearl (yes, I do a Howdee!). Dave plays a plethora of roles. Jason Roberts is Bob Wills, and Ray is...Ray!

Well, we're putting on the play this weekend in Kerrville at the lovely Cailloux Theater. And yes, you do want to take a trip to the beautiful Hill Country to see it this weekend. You could take a day trip, or make a weekend of it!

So it's agreed. Cool. I'll see you there.
